Robshead presents a special throwback mix! This guy, Markus Schulz, you know him right? If you don’t and you are listening to house and trance and progressive, you must be like the Geico caveman, living under a rock or something. Seriously, this guy has been on the forefront of progressive trance since about 2001, and this Essential Mix, recorded in 2008, is becoming one of my favorite mixes ever — I’ve been listening to it nonstop lately. A lot of trance aficionados call 2008 a glory year for trance music, a metamorphosis of sorts, and Markus led the way with fellow artists such as Armin Van Buuren, Orjan Nilsen, Ferry Corsten, and a host of other heavy weights. So let’s get to the amazing music that is the Markus Schulz Essential Mix of December 2008!! New Mix — Sunburst
This year has certainly been an amazing one! From Miami to Ibiza, indeed it has been the year of EDM for me. Ibiza was simply a dream come true — a voyage with 5 close friends to see the most famous DJ’s in the most famous clubs in the world. We were at Space for the (unknowingly) live recording of Armin’s Universal Religion 5. We saw the Swedish House Mafia throw their resident event at the Pacha. Took the Pukka Up! sunset boat cruise out in the Mediterranean. Went to Playa D’en Bossa to bask in the white sands and sun-soaked daybeds of Delano Beach. Made the West End our local spot, and so much more. It’s a magical place I’ve dreamed of visiting since I was 18, and I hope to go back there in the next couple of years.
Halloween in South Beach Miami was pure awesome. My lovely lady and I took the red eye out for a quick 4 day stay to visit friends and family. We hit the beaches, strolled down Lincoln Ave for epic meal times, attended a downtown costume party, and charged straight to the front row at a massive Halloween Masquerade tent party hosted by Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso.
So now, after all of this journeyman business, I’ve listened and learned from the best — tightened up my musical tastes in terms of quality, and honed my skills/techniques on the decks! So now here’s where I get excited.
My latest mix is entitled “Sunburst”. It’s a powerful, musical reflection on the year of 2011. Basically, the music and experiences this year in Ibiza and Miami completely blew me away. I admit I had a couple of emotional moments making this one. It’s just really good trance music. Without a doubt, this is the most masterful, harmonic, and captivating mix I’ve ever put together. If you have never listened to anything I’ve ever put out, and only decide to listen to one mix I have ever done, MAKE IT THIS ONE.
